Partners

Community School Partners provide programs and services to students and families attending these schools.  All community schools work with some partners and there are also school specific partnerships in place.

Cañada College – Community Based English Tutoring (CBET Program):
This program, offered to parents at the school site, provides English Language Development training with the goal of preparing English learners to move to the community college level to further their education.

City of Redwood City, Parks, Recreation and Community Services:
PRCS provides  extended day learning and summer programs  at most community schools through ASES and 21st Century funding.  These programs include academic support and enrichment components.

Citizen Schools:
Offers an extended day learning and summer program to Kennedy Middle School students. Their program includes academic support, enrichment and apprenticeships.

Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula:
Offers extended day learning and summer program to Hoover and Taft students. Their program includes academic support, enrichment and recreation activities.

Sheriff’s Office:
Provides School Resource Officers and support from community outreach specialists.

Redwood City Police Department:
Partners with Hoover and Kennedy schools in their violence prevention strategies. School Resource Officers have dedicated hours in both schools.

County of San Mateo:

  • Human Services Agency – Psychiatric Social Workers provide mental health services to students on school sites and Benefit Analysts assist families to connect to social services.
  • Health System – provides on site enrollment for families to access the Children’s Health Initiative
  • Sheriff's Office - provides school resource officers, and community building/violence prevention programs

 

Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY):
Fly provides a prevention program for middle school youth that includes a 5-8 day course in the law, monthly law clubs, and a field trip to Santa Clara or Stanford Law Schools.

Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center:
Family Engagement Specialists work with families to promote active involvement with their children’s education, help adults understand and partner with the schools to support student learning and develop leadership skills

Spark:
Spark operates summer and after-school programs that match students with apprenticeships in professions of their choice at local workplaces

Youth and Family Enrichment Services:

  • Differential Response – This program is a home visiting and case management service for families who have been reported to Child Protective Services but screened out as low-risk.
  • Learning Together—The Learning Together program provides FREE home visits to pregnant mothers and to families with children birth through 5 years of age
  • The Children’s Place provides education and support to children from addicted families
