Redwood City Together
About Redwood City Together
We believe that we’re most successful as a community when we recognize the strength of our diversity and the values we share. No matter what our background is, we all want safe streets for our children, neighbors who look out for each other, and a thriving community where we can all prosper together.
Launched in the spring of 2012, Redwood City Together seeks to bring diverse community members together to get to know each other and work together to build an integrated, cohesive community that reflects our shared values and offers opportunities for everyone who works, lives, studies and plays here
Redwood City Together is an affiliate of Welcoming America, a national grassroots organization promoting mutual respect and cooperation between foreign born and US born Americans. The ultimate goal of Welcoming America and it's affiliates, is to create a welcoming atmosphere – community by community – in which immigrants are more likely to integrate into the social fabric of their adopted hometowns. You can learn more about Welcoming America by visiting http://www.welcomingamerica.org/.
Redwood City Together is a collaborative partner with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office CARON Program. Established in 1999, the CARON Program (Community Alliance to Revitalize Our Neighborhood), promotes healthy communities by cultivating the relationship between law enforcement and the community by empowering families with education, knowledge and resources. As partners, Redwood City Together and CARON work together to create events that promote trust and inclusivity within our community. What We do
Our goal is to establish a culture of inclusion and mutual support in our community. A Steering Committee of community leaders leads this initiative and uses the following strategies:
Use the many existing community building events and activities in Redwood City to promote positive interaction between residents from all backgrounds, ages and parts of the community.
- Build Community Leadership – We invite and support an ever-growing group of local community volunteers to serve as welcoming community ambassadors and other members to serve on a Steering Committee to guide the initiative’s work.
- Promote Public Engagement and Dialogue – Ambassadors and community groups work together to organize formal and informal opportunities and events for community members to learn from and get to know each through informal activities and conversations.
- Create Positive Messages– We create and publicly display positive messages emphasizing the benefits we enjoy in our diverse community. We use the media, art, movies and books, photo galleries, posters and other tools in this effort
"Faces of Our Community," a series of 26 photographs and quotes depicting the extraordinarily rich diversity of the Redwood City community. The exhibit features photos taken by local artist Jose Luis Aguirre shows a wide array of long-term residents as well as newcomers from all walks of life in Redwood City, whose origins are from all over the world.
